SUMMARY:DIA DE LOS MUERTOS-DAY OF THE DEAD
DESCRIPTION:Since 2019\, Latinx Immigrants of Iowa\, in collaboration with the Des Moines Public Library\, has led a valuable initiative to promote and celebrate El Día de los Muertos ‘- Day of the Dead in Iowa. This event\, which takes place on November 2 each year\, aims not only to preserve and share one of the most emblematic traditions of Mexican and Latin American culture\, but also to invite the community at large to learn more about this unique celebration. \nThe Day of the Dead is a special date to remember and honor our loved ones who are no longer with us. During the event\, traditional elements such as ofrendas\, which include pan de muerto\, chocolate or atole\, as well as flowers that evoke the cempasúchil flower\, which is believed to guide the deceased in their return to the world of the living\, are displayed. An integral part of the event is also the work of the volunteers\, who dedicate their time to create beautiful flowers that simulate those of the cempasúchil\, adding an artisanal and community touch to the celebration. \nIn addition to its cultural character\, the event is distinguished for being inclusive\, inviting people from other cultures to participate and learn about this tradition. The celebration is open to the public and completely free of charge\, which allows all those interested to have the opportunity to live this experience\, regardless of their origin or cultural background. \nWith this initiative\, Latinx Immigrants of Iowa not only promotes pride in our roots\, but also fosters intercultural understanding and respect for diversity\, creating a space where Latino traditions can be appreciated and celebrated by the entire Iowa community. \nThanks to Maria del Carmen Jaime Cruz program coordinator to our sponsors KADI – Knock and Drop Iowa Reyes Tamales Refugee & Immigrant Voices in Action – RIVA Broadlawns Medical Center \n  \n \n  \n
